BEIJING, March 14 (Xinhua) -- While the ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships kicked off in Beijing on Friday, China's Lin Xiaojun, who was absent due to shoulder surgery, told Xinhua that he is continuing to prepare for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Lin injured his left shoulder during the ISU Short Track World Tour in November last year. He recovered to win the men's 500m gold at the Harbin Asian Winter Games last month, and then withdrew from the rest of the season to undergo surgery in South Korea.

"My team helped me consult many experts, and they gave unanimous advice for me to have the surgery. I underwent the surgery on February 14 and discharged from hospital on the following day. As a veteran, I am familiar with the process," Lin said.

He added, "The surgery went well. Now, I spend about six hours in rehabilitation everyday. I try to move my shoulder in different angles but still need to wear protective gear during sleep. My family can take care of me in South Korea. I communicate with my team doctor every week about my condition and training plan. I also pay attention to adjusting my diet."

According to Lin, his entire lay-off will last around six months, with the first three months focused on his shoulder's rehabilitation, before gradually returning to training over the following three months, and finally starting to practice on ice from mid-May.

"This is the most important year for preparing for Milan-Cortina 2026," said Lin. "The surgery was done in time, and the shoulder injury is not likely to affect normal preparations for the Games. I wish to have a full season to get me ready. The process is significant."

"I hope that I can show my best in Milan and demonstrate China's strength, particularly in relay events," he noted. "I will do my best in training and show the best of short track to everyone. I want to thank the fans for supporting China all the time."
