KATHMANDU, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Over 300 deaf students in Nepal have been benefited by the school bag donation project of China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA).

Amid a special function organized in Central Higher Secondary School for Deaf in the capital city Kathmandu on Tuesday, CFPA distributed more than 300 school bags along with stationary items to the deaf students.

Established in 1967, the Central Higher Secondary School for Deaf is the country's oldest deaf school, where nearly 400 students study in sign language from pre-primary level to Grade 12.

"This program sheds a new light to the school of deaf. The assistance would enhance the quality education of our students," Upendra Parajuli, principal at Central Higher Secondary School for Deaf, said while addressing the function.

He expressed hope that the Chinese side will continue the support in development of infrastructures and other aspects of the school in future.

The students, who hail from different parts of the country, were very excited to receive the new bags and stationary items. Though they could not share the happiness through words, the teachers helped them express their feelings through hand signs.

"My name is Janavi Gharti. I am feeling very happy to receive the new bag," a primary level student shared with Xinhua with the help of her sign language teacher.

Receiving the colorful gifts, the students said "thank you" to the Chinese side by raising and waving their hands, carrying a wide smile on their faces.

On the occasion, some students also performed a special dance as a sign of gratitude, attracting huge applauds.

According to the Chinese organization, it extended support to the students who could not hear and speak coinciding with its 4th anniversary in Nepal.

CFPA, which started its work in Nepal after the earthquake in the country 2015, has been working in sectors including disaster relief, food, water and sanitation, disinfection treatment, education, health care and school supplies distribution, among others.

It has carried out over a dozen post-disaster reconstruction and development projects in at least 20 districts of Nepal.
